Summary: At the CCBN 2014, MoCA was invited to join the CCBN International Advisory Committee and MoCA’s Vice President of Marketing & Member Relations hosted a press meeting in Beijing during this period.

According to Rob, MoCA technology has been extensively adopted by pay TV operators and customers in the global market. MoCA technology enables the distribution of multiple streams of high definition (HD) video and data over existing, in-home coaxial cabling and well complements wireless network, offering a complete connected home experience.

The only problem for Chinese home network construction is the dense living conditions in the city. The residents in the living buildings are thirsty for home network and internet access. They will probably choose wireless but they will encounter signal interference from their neighbors, thus resulting in performance reduction.

At the end of this article, the author concluded that the home network is a blend of wireless and wired technologies and needs a wire for reliable delivery of HD content and data, highlighting Coax is the best medium for video. Currently MoCA technology is proven and is in trails or deployment by operators on five continents.

Summary: On March 20, 2014, MoCA announced the availability of its Certification Program for products implementing the MoCA 2.0 specification. All pay TV operators in China will benefits from the MoCA Certification Program as this ensures that all products are compliant with the technical specification and products from different vendors are interoperable with each other.

According to Rob, though MoCA technology is mainly adopted in the United States and Europe, pay TV operators and service providers are increasingly adopting MoCA technology to enhance in-home video applications on a worldwide basis.

At present, MoCA is not well known in China compared with other regions. MoCA has been initiating evaluation and trials of MoCA with operators and committed to addressing the concerned questions by the operators and consumers, that is to say, to deliver disruption-free HD video and services through seamless home network.

When talking about MoCA’s promotion over the last year, Rob said, “The road ahead is not so easy but we are fully confident about the China market. Our goal is to educate the operators and customers about the connected home and enable them to know why coaxial cabling is the best medium for HD video delivery. MoCA’s strategy in China is to educate, inform and engage.

The biggest challenge for MoCA in China is to increase awareness in the market. MoCA also encountered some skepticism when promoted in the U.S.A many years ago. But it’s believed that the habit of Chinese customers’ watching video will change and this is exactly the opportunity MoCA has been awaiting.

Such an opportunity might be quietly approaching. Currently, MoCA has talked over with China’s major Pay TV operators and some are initiating evaluation on MoCA technology.

Rob added, “MoCA boasts of extensive resources and staying power with a strong momentum and we are patiently awaiting the day of the rapid rise of the China market and will continue to keep in close touch with service providers to develop and design the best home network meeting the requirements of operators and customers.”

On March 20, 2014, the Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA®) announced the availability of its Certification Program for products implementing the MoCA 2.0 specification. Upon passage of certification, companies receive a certificate documenting and officially acknowledging that the submitted product has passed the compliance and interoperability requirements mandated by the Alliance. At the press event, MoCA’s vice president of marketing & member relations Rob Gelphman introduced MoCA technology in great detail. Through his introduction, the authors knows MoCA 2.0 is available now and is the first specification developed by the entire Alliance and is the direct result of the hard work of many Promoter and Contributor level members. It offers two performance modes of 400 Mbps and 800 Mbps actual throughputs, packet error rates (PER) as low as one in 100 million with a nominal latency of 3.6ms, and standby and sleep modes for help in overall power management in the network.

In the meantime, MoCA also announced it’s accepted as a member of the CCBN International Advisory Committee. “MoCA is honored to accept the invitation to join the CCBN International Advisory Committee,” said Charles Cerino, President of MoCA. “SARFT and the pay TV operators in China recognize the critical role of coaxial cabling as the backbone capable of the heavy lifting required in the connected home for all IP traffic.   MoCA is pleased to share our connected home experience that we have garnered from working with operators in the US, Europe, Latin America, South Africa and now China.”

Summary: According to Rob, reliable HD content delivery still needs a wire and coaxial cabling is undoubtedly the best medium for HD video applications as it can avoid any interference and unauthorized access, which is seen as challenges by wireless and powerline.

MoCA is the standard for home entertainment networking. It is the only such standard in trials or deployments by cable, satellite and IPTV/telco operators worldwide. MoCA technology is also used to extend Wi-Fi® connectivity.

Rob has admitted that the brand reputation of MoCA technology is not well established in China yet. And we will strengthen education and inform operators and customers of the fact that coax cabling is the best medium for HD video applications. In the meanwhile, MoCA will continue to work on and strengthen regulations to meet the increasing demands of operators and customers in terms of bandwidth and service quality.

In Rob’s opinion, China’s digital cable market, especially the HD digital cable TV market, is potentially huge. MoCA is patiently awaiting the opportunity.

In order to comply with the China market and also seek a breakthrough, MoCA announced the availability of its Certification Program for products implementing the MoCA 2.0 specification. All pay TV operators in China will benefits from the MoCA Certification Program as this ensures that all products are compliant with the technical specification and products from different vendors are interoperable with each other.

Moreover, MoCA was accepted as a member of the newly inaugurated CCBN International Advisory Committee. And MoCA is just patiently waiting for the day of the rapid rise of the China market. Currently MoCA technology is proven and is in trails or deployment by operators on five continents. MoCA is IP (Ethernet) over coax.
