And TI makes 43.
The Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) announced that Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) has recently signed up, bringing the total number of MoCA members to 43, including 11 chip vendors.
MoCA is an open, industry driven initiative promoting networking of digital video and entertainment through existing coaxial cable in the home. MoCA technology provides the backbone for whole home entertainment networks of multiple wired and wireless products.
Membership in MoCA provides access to the alliance's intellectual property under reasonable and non-discriminatory (RAND) licensing terms, as well as the ability to certify MoCA compliance of designs. The full MAC/PHY v1.0 specification, ongoing certification waves, RAND licensing environment and membership by all the key MoCA intellectual property holders, assures any chip vendor or other entity that they will develop MoCA technology and products in a well-known and level playing field, and then be able to certify end products to show their MoCA compliance.
"By joining MoCA, TI demonstrates commitment to reducing the complexity that service providers and customers face as broadband and consumer electronics products converge," said Kurt Eckles, director of marketing and customer support for TI's Residential Gateway and Embedded Systems business unit, in a statement. "TI's membership in MoCA supports our strategy of using industry recognized, open standards to accelerate delivery of easy to use triple play services throughout the home."
In addition, MoCA announced that it has one million nodes in deployment by systems vendors and service providers. A variety of products such as PVR/DVR and client side STBs, broadband home routers, residential gateways, Ethernet to MoCA bridges and optical network terminals are currently in deployment by MoCA members.
