BROADCOM'S INTEGRATED MOCA® SYSTEM-ON-A-CHIP REFERENCE DESIGN RECEIVES MOCA CERTIFICATION

Broadcom Recognizes Service Providers Need for Cost Effective Solutions that Satisfy the Growing Demand for Whole-Home Entertainment Networks

IRVINE, Calif. - April 2, 2009 - Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, today announced that its home networking reference design platform for set-top box (STB) and broadband access products, featuring integrated Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) connectivity, has received MoCA Certification from the MoCA Certification Board. With the integration of MoCA connectivity into Broadcom system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions, worldwide cable, satellite and telecommunications service providers can cost effectively transform a subscriber's existing coax cable infrastructure into a whole-home media distribution network for the next generation digital home.

With the increasing prevalence of digital content in the home such as high definition (HD) video, personal video recording, the emergence of televisions capable of HD content playback, the growth in downloadable video and audio, and the pervasive use of digital photography, consumers increasingly expect digital content to be available on any television in the home, at any time. MoCA technology allows service providers to utilize their existing coaxial infrastructure, enabling networking systems to take advantage of these new applications throughout the home. MoCA has been adopted by most of the leading U.S. service providers as the preferred in-home networking technology, and demand for MoCA connectivity is expected to increase significantly, with makers of set-top box (STB) and broadband access products seeking to integrate this functionality in a cost effective and timely manner.

The ability to access and share distributed digital multimedia content throughout multiple rooms and devices within a household is rapidly becoming a reality, as cable, satellite and telecommunications service providers begin to offer these services as consumer electronics makers offer Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) products. Utilizing the Broadcom MoCA reference design platform for STB and media gateway designs, service providers can offer whole-home digital media distribution services that let subscribers securely access, store and share multiple types of digital media content including HDTV programs, video-on-demand (VoD), recordings from digital video recorders (DVRs), Internet content, video, music, photos and voice over Internet protocol (VoIP). DLNA enables consumer appliances to connect and exchange digital content throughout the home utilizing MoCA, Ethernet or Wi-Fi networks. Broadcom's MoCA Certification within its MoCA reference design platform will help the specification's adoption and will proliferate into a variety of next generation solutions.

"MoCA Certification is a significant landmark in the proliferation of whole-home entertainment networks," said Dan Marotta, Senior Vice President & General Manager of Broadcom's Broadband Communications Group. "As MoCA becomes more integrated in our wide variety of devices, service providers insist that their MoCA-enabled products will work together and be upheld to the highest standards. MoCA Certification testing verifies device interoperability with MoCA specifications, functionality and performance, paving the way for broad deployment with multiple silicon solutions from Broadcom."

"As one of the most prominent chip vendors in the cable industry and home networking market, Broadcom's certification is a milestone for the MoCA standard" said Charlie Cerino, President of MoCA. "Their ability to integrate MoCA functionality into a single chip design will accelerate deployment and make great strides toward achieving worldwide adoption of the standard."
