August 30, 2011 -- -- San Ramon, CA — MoCA® (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) has passed a significant milestone with the announcement that more than 100 MoCA products have now been certified. More than 45 percent of all certifications have occurred since the start of 2010, underlining the strong growth trajectory of the MoCA standard. The majority (about 85 percent) of the 100 plus MoCA Certified products, which are all video--specific, are used by pay TV operators. The remaining 15 percent are available in retail and installer channels. Product categories include: routers, set--top boxes, Ethernet--to--coax bridges, optical network terminals and cable modems. Already the dominant standard for whole home content sharing and DVR in North America, MoCA sees opportunities for further growth including new geographies – particularly Europe – and new channels, such as the custom installer/retail sectors. “As an alliance that focuses on certifying video--specific products, reaching the century mark is a great achievement. What’s particularly interesting about this milestone is the sheer rate of growth in product certifications in the last 18 months. We expect this certification rate to continue as we expand into new geographic markets and into the custom installer/retail segments,” said Charles Cerino, MoCA president. “The MoCA Certification program’s rigorous Interoperability testing is designed to exceed the service providers’ expectations for robust video networking, enabling them to choose from a broad portfolio of products for worldwide deployments,” said Dr. Stephen Palm, senior technical director at Broadcom and Chair of the Certification Board for MoCA. MoCA is the worldwide standard for home entertainment networking and the only standard in deployment in all three pay TV segments (cable, satellite and Telco/IPTV). MoCA is included in the DLNA® Interoperability Guidelines and the IEEE 802.1AS standard.
