Alcatel joins Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA)
San Ramon, CA and Paris – January 11, 2006 – The Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA TM) today announced that Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) has joined as an associate member.
“At the forefront of technology, Alcatel plays a key role in the deployment of next generation networks for the delivery of converged voice and high bandwidth services focusing on end user needs,” said Mike Dobbs, senior vice president of Alcatel’s access network activities in North America. “Alcatel’s membership in MoCA underscores the company’s desire to drive toward standardization for the delivery of these services to the home.”
“Alcatel is part of a growing recognition by savvy companies that distribution of whole-home digital entertainment will require the technology muscle that MoCA provides,” Ladd Wardani, President of MoCA stated. “MoCA's video over coax solution is an efficient and robust delivery medium for digital entertainment in the home.”
MoCA is the first technology to consistently deliver HD and DVD quality video and digital entertainment throughout the whole home. It was developed from the ground up to address the key requirements for networking of digital entertainment: high throughput, quality of service (QoS), security, and ease of use.
The technology underlying MoCA provides vital elements necessary to distribute digital entertainment throughout the home with a speed of 270 Mbps, high QoS, and the innate security of a shielded, wired connection combined with state of the art packet-level encryption. Field tests in real-world situations revealed MoCA technology net throughputs of more than100 Mbps to 97 percent of coax outlets, without remediation, and 100 percent with a small and inexpensive filter.
