MoCA ADDS ADDITIONAL SILICON VENDOR
SAN RAMON, CA, February 14, 2006 – Israeli chip vendor, Octalica, Ltd., has joined the Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA -TM). Octalica’s membership represents another alternate source of silicon that will help proliferate the MoCA standard for delivery of digital entertainment throughout the home using the coaxial cable already in existence.
Octalica’s membership allows the company to license the necessary patent claims for MoCA technology under reasonable and non-discriminatory (RAND) terms. MoCA’s guaranteed RAND licensing environment and certification process enables any chip vendor or other entity to develop MoCA technology and products in a well-known and level playing field, and then to certify end products to show their MoCA compliance.
“We have always believed that coax was the best medium, technically and economically, for delivery of digital entertainment in the home,” said Moti Kintzlinger, CEO of Octalica. “And MoCA represents a promising technology for coax.”
“Octalica’s membership is a welcome event as additional chip vendors will help proliferate the MoCA standard and drive down costs for OEM’s, service providers and the end consumer,” said Ladd Wardani, president of MoCA. “Octalica can develop and market MoCA chips to any customer under its own brand name in a standards-based ecosystem that reliably supports multiple vendors.“
