MoCA™ EXPANDS MEMBERSHIP TO INCLUDE TEXAS INSTRUMENTS
TelcoTV, Dallas, TX, November 6, 2006 – The Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA™) has announced that Texas Instruments (TI) has joined the organization. By leveraging TI’s leadership position across the broadband and consumer electronics markets, MoCA is furthering its efforts to drive home networking of digital video and entertainment.
“By joining MoCA, TI demonstrates commitment to reducing the complexity that service providers and customers face as broadband and consumer electronics products converge,” said Kurt Eckles, director of marketing and customer support for TI’s Residential Gateway and Embedded Systems business unit. “TI’s membership in MoCA supports our strategy of using industry recognized, open standards to accelerate delivery of easy to use triple play services throughout the home.”
TI has built leadership positions in several broadband equipment and video display markets. The company’s signal processing-based silicon and software platforms deliver the performance, lower power consumption and system-level integration required to deploy differentiated products for the digital home.
“We are excited about TI’s support of MoCA’s efforts to deliver cost-effective digital entertainment to consumers throughout the home without the use of new wires or home upgrades, said Ladd Wardini, president of MoCA. “TI is playing a significant role in enabling the future of broadband through its flexible, open platform and broad customer base. We look forward to collaborating on MoCA standard development and deployment.”
TI’s membership brings the total number of members to 43, including 11 chip vendors.
Membership in MoCA provides access to MoCA’s intellectual property under reasonable and non-discriminatory (RAND) licensing terms, as well as the ability to certify MoCA compliance of designs, and therefore assures the industry of a standards-based solution. The full MAC/PHY v1.0 specification, ongoing certification waves, RAND licensing environment and membership by all the key MoCA intellectual property holders, assures any chip vendor or other entity that they will develop MoCA technology and products in a well-known and level playing field, and then be able to certify end products to show their MoCA compliance.
