How recently ratified industry standard connects 5G and satellite broadband dish to in-home router without compromising latency

Cost-effective 5G and satellite broadband home installation is now available with MoCA Link™ 2.5

March 22, 2022 – San Ramon, Calif – Fixed Wireless 5G, Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite, and 10G Passive Optical Networks (PON) internet access technologies all benefit from network termination with modems installed at the edge of the house or MDU. In the case of millimeter wave 5G Fixed Wireless and LEO satellites, signals do not penetrate building materials easily and require outdoor line-of-sight transceivers/modems.

Recently ratified by members of the Multimedia over Coax Alliance, MoCA®, MoCA Link™ 2.5, in combination with existing coaxial cabling in a home or MDU, becomes the network connectivity bridge from the outside transceiver to interior modem/router.  MoCA Link™ 2.5 enables speeds up to 2.5 gigabits per second (Gbps) with ultra-low latency of less than 1 millisecond resulting in minimal overhead on the overall latency of the end-to-end connection.

MoCA Link™ 2.5 can potentially save significant labor and disruption when installing these new access technologies using existing coaxial cabling, which offers a reduction in Total Cost of Ownership for the service provider. MoCA Link™ 2.5 also supports reverse power feeds and lets the outdoor transceiver obtain power from the home gateway which can simplify installation and reduce costs.

“Reuse of existing coax cabling with the benefits of MoCA Link 2.5 are a cost-effective method for fixed wireless 5G and satellite operators to build out broadband network installations with minimal in-home disruptions” explained Dr. Jim Crammond, MoCA President.

MoCA Link™ 2.5 features:

  • 2.5 Gbps Multi-Gigabit speeds;
  • Ultra-low latency of less than one (1) millisecond;
  • Reverse power feed capabilities;
  • Standard traffic shaping support and Quality of Service.

About MoCA®:  MoCA®, the coax standards for managed networks, lets people work, learn, stream, and game over existing coax cable available in homes, apartments, flats, hotels, and buildings worldwide. MoCA® is a global, member-driven, non-profit trade association that creates access and connectivity coax standards for managed networks. MoCA member companies consist of global service providers (MSOs, Telco/IPTV), OEM, ODM, and semiconductor companies. For more information and graphics on MoCA Link™.
